The PGA Tour is rewriting the guest list

The PGA Tour has announced eligibility rules for its Championship and Challenger series, beginning in 2028. The two-tier concept was announced earlier. Reuters

The framework includes 90 retained Championship players, 20 promoted from Challenger and other qualifying categories. Field sizes depend on commitments. Existing exemptions earned through the end of 2026 will be honored for their applicable duration.

Here’s the consequential distinction: win a regular-season full-field event in 2027 and earn Championship membership through 2028. Win a fall or opposite-field event that year and earn Challenger membership through 2029. Official eligibility release

Why it matters

This changes the careers players plan and, in our view, the product sponsors buy. Field access and the reward for winning help define an event’s value. The commercial challenge is giving the Challenger Series an identity fans follow for its own sake, beyond watching players try to leave it.

Still unresolved: how Augusta National will treat winners from the two series. AP raises the question; no new Masters policy is reported. AP via Golf Channel

Cabot’s next Nova Scotia trip turns inland

Cabot Wilds is planned for 2,500 acres in Nova Scotia’s Cobequid foothills, with an 18-hole Jeff Mingay course following the River Philip valley. Cabot is developing the destination with John Bragg and his family, targeting preview play in late 2027. Cabot · Golf Course Architecture

The setting is the reason to pay attention: forests, rolling countryside and a river. This is an inland expression of Nova Scotia golf, with the landscape supplying a different architectural brief from the coastal imagery that so often sells a golf trip.

Hart Howerton is designing the resort facilities, including a clubhouse and recreation pavilion. Residential real estate and activities beyond golf are also part of the plan.

Why it matters

Our read is that Cabot is building a reason to visit across seasons, with golf anchoring a broader hospitality business. For architecture obsessives, the question is how Mingay uses the river valley; for travelers, it is whether the finished destination warrants a trip of its own. The preview target makes this one for the future-trip list, rather than next month’s itinerary.

A $329 driver. Your slice remains separately owned

Takomo’s Ignis D2 went on sale September 15, according to GOLF’s launch report. The U.S. product page lists $329 USD, a simplified single-weight-port design and the manufacturer’s promise of easier launch and more forgiveness. GOLF’s launch report · Takomo product page

The appeal starts with the price. You do not need to believe a launch announcement has settled the driver category to want this on your comparison list. You need a build that fits your swing and results that justify putting it in the bag.

Takomo advertises dispatch in three to six business days, with U.S. left-handed models starting to ship in late September. Confirm the timing for your chosen configuration before ordering.

The distinction worth keeping: $329 is the price; forgiveness is a performance claim. The former earns the D2 attention. The latter needs to show up when you hit it. That leaves a useful proposition to investigate without turning the launch into a verdict—or the purchase into a promise about your handicap.

Ladies Tees: watch the move from founder idea to pro shop

Ladies Tees launched in June. The reason to watch now is a September 15 interview in which founders Jordan and Katherine Salisbury describe wholesale ambitions alongside the practical thinking behind their clothes. They discuss usable pockets, movement and separate undershorts: details that matter over a full round. Women & Golf interview

The sisters describe U.S. shipping and plans for international expansion. Those are ambitions, not announced distribution deals. Their pitch combines competitive-golf function with a wardrobe they want to wear. Ladies Tees

The next thing worth tracking is whether that product brief earns space in golf shops. A founder story can explain the gap; wholesale interest would offer another signal that the clothes address it. For now, this is a young brand with specific design priorities and a clear next commercial step. That makes it more interesting to follow than another label asking us to admire its mood board.

Lancaster commits through 2044. The club has been awarded five USGA women’s championships: Girls’ Junior in 2028, Senior Women’s Open in 2033, Women’s Mid-Amateur in 2037, Women’s Amateur in 2040 and Women’s Open in 2044. The breadth is the story: one venue committing to competition across generations. USGA

Monte Rei is back. The North course in Portugal’s Algarve has reopened after a six-month Nicklaus Design renovation covering greens, bunkers, irrigation, the pump station, cart paths and practice facilities. A useful update for the travel list, with investment extending well beyond what appears in the photographs. Golf Course Architecture

Wentworth adds a starting point. The BMW PGA Championship will use the 1st and 9th tees for its opening two rounds to accommodate six additional players and limited September daylight. This is a planned change; weather has forced two-tee exceptions before. Golf Monthly
